Job Description

Aquatics Manager & Waterfront Lifeguard Monday, June 15 - Monday, August 10, 2026 Position Summary The Aquatics Manager's primary responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating all waterfront, swimming, and boating activities. This position identifies and meets camper needs and operates the waterfront program in compliance with American Red Cross water safety requirements. Specific Responsibilities
  • Evaluate all waterfront supplies prior to the start of camp, review the Waterfront Safety Plan, and follow all regulatory requirements
  • Work with the Camp Manager to create and facilitate swimming, boating, and other water activities
  • Ensure the general safety of campers and staff at the waterfront at all times
  • Inspect facilities and equipment daily; report any problems to the Camp Manager
  • Manage any waterfront emergencies, including providing leadership and recruiting assistance as necessary
  • Complete appropriate follow-up documentation for any waterfront emergency or rescue
  • Lifeguard at the waterfront during swim time and all water activities
  • Perform weekly skills and conditioning tests and attend appropriate in-service training
  • Keep the waterfront free of hazards and equipment well maintained
  • Participate in camp set up and close out, weekly planning meetings, and give feedback on staff roles and camp needs
  • Participate in other camp activities as necessary
  • Perform all other duties and roles assigned by the Camp Manager Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED
  • Current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certification required (certification can be provided if not already held)
  • Waterfront and boating experience required; certification preferred Compensation Starts at $750/week, adjusted to match experience.
Hourly position also available. Housing and meals provided for the full period of employment. About Star Lake Wilderness Camp Star Lake Wilderness Camp provides an outdoor recreation and living experience where youth can unplug and grow physically, socially, and mentally. We largely focus on youth who are traditionally underserved, have challenges, or would otherwise lack meaningful exposure to nature. Located thirty minutes north of Brainerd, MN, our 420-acre camp is secluded in its setting and rustic in its accommodations. Campers sleep in tents and eat around a fire. They are outdoors for their entire stay. Activities include canoeing, swimming, crafting, volleyball, hiking, stargazing, and fishing. We use outhouses and bathe in Star Lake. Being a staff member at Star Lake Wilderness Camp is far more than a summer job.
