Lifeguard

POSITION SUMMARY

We are hiring for Lifeguards for the following shifts: M-F 5am- 9am, 9am-1pm shifts . Saturday 7am-12pm & 12-5 Sunday 12pm-5pm Qualified applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older and have a current lifeguard certification. Or enroll in one of our certification courses here at the y. Qualified applicants may also have their training paid for but must work here at the Y after passing the certification course. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintain safe aquatic environment for all participants Perform cleaning duties as scheduled Complete 1 Aquatics In-Service monthly (2 hours) Address safety concerns in and around pool areas, redirecting patrons as necessary Enforce pool rules to prevent injuries by minimizing hazardous situations or behaviors Perform necessary professional rescuer practices in facility emergency situations Perform hourly pool chemical checks and record in pool log (both facilities) Ensure participant safety and appropriate pool ratios Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatics Director and/or Head Lifeguard Understand and abide by the Joplin Family Y personnel policies

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum age of 16

Certifications:

Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration

• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
