Job Description

Definition:
The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around aquatic facilities. This position monitors pool activities, enforces safety rules, responds to emergencies, and provides a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the pool and surrounding areas
  • Enforce all pool rules, regulations, and safety protocols in a consistent and professional manner
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid situations
  • Administer CPR, AED, First Aid, and other lifesaving measures as needed
  • Inspect the pool area and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met
  • Prevent accidents through proactive observation and intervention
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures of the aquatic facility
  • Provide excellent customer service by interacting respectfully with patrons, staff, and visitors
  • Complete incident and accident reports as required
  • Participate in regular in-service trainings and drills
Qualifications:
  • Active lifeguard certification required
  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Current Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications required by the start of the aquatics season
  • Strong swimming ability and physical fitness
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and focused for extended periods
  • Strong communication, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations
Experience:
  • Previous lifeguarding experience preferred
  • Experience working in aquatics, recreation, or customer service environments preferred
  • Experience working with youth, families, or community-based programs is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and respond effectively in high-pressure situations
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and scanning the pool
  • Exposure to heat, humidity, and chlorinated water
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to swim continuously and perform water rescues
  • Ability to lift and assist patrons in distress
  • Ability to hear and see distress signals
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
Pay:
$15.92 - $18.00 per hour
