Requirements:
Lifeguards must be 16 years of age. Current lifeguard certification, first aid, professional CPRAED certification are required. Thorough knowledge of application of lifeguarding, surveillance and rescue techniques. An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures. Leadership, public relations and decision-making skills are essential. Pre-employment testing of life-guarding skills and knowledge are required.
Other responsibilities include:
Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies. Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the head lifeguardsupervisor Complete records and reports Participate in regular in-service training sessions Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance) Work in conjunction with head lifeguard to accomplish facility set up and alterations (I.e. movement of pool lanes and bulkhead) Initiate the emergency response plan and call EMS (911) if necessary Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or director

Based on experience and level of responsibility.
