The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.OUR CULTURE

Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the "safe-in-six" model. Completes related reports as required. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. Assists lifeguards with any questions or concerns they may have as well as provides additional training when needed. Willing to instruct Lifeguarding classes under the Red Cross platform. Willing to instruct group and private swim lessons when necessary. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately and in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the "safe-in-six" model. Completes related reports as required. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Functional Expertise Customer ServiceQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 15 years of age. CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen. Current American Red Cross OR YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent. If you are not lifeguard certified, take the course with the Y! After working with us for 90 days, you may be eligible for reimbursement for the certification.View available Lifeguard courses here:
