AquaticsPOSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard at Odessa Family YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Assist new swimmers and swim activities to help and teach our guest to safely enjoy the water.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required. Provide leadership during specified activities. Including but not limited to open swim, swim lessons, and pool parties Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. To be on time, reliable and in appropriate attire To communicate effectively with guest, staff, and supervisors. Attend all staff meetings. Responsible for keeping certifications current. Must attend monthly mandatory In-service trainingsQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age of 16Certifications:
Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate. Must possess an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to all members.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Able to preform in outdoor weather conditions. Capable of walking, sitting, standing, bending and moving for long periods, able to lift over 50lbs Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.SIGNATURE
