Planning, coordinating, and facilitating all aquatics programming (under the direction of the Aquatics Director) Hiring, training, and supervising Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other aquatics staff and volunteers Developing, managing, and implementing the aquatics department budget (under the direction of the AQ Director) Maintaining accurate records of pool usage, chemical readings, program participation, and staff certifications Keeping your skills fresh by planning, leading, and participating in In-service Training and Drills Organizing and implementing special aquatics events both on- and off-site Assisting with pump/chemical room maintenance duties Being a positive role model for youths in your community Upholding the
YMCA Policies and Standards Requirements:
What do you need to qualify? Be at least 18 years old Have at least 2 years of aquatic leadership experience Be available during program hours (including evenings/weekends) Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification
  • Possess (or obtain within 30 days) YMCA "Leader" Certification
  • Possess a current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification (preferred) Possess a current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Red Cross WSI Certification (preferred) Possess a current CPO or AFO certification (preferred) Possess a current YMCA "Team-Leader" Certification (preferred) Be able to pass a written/physical assessment prior to duty Have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations Have ability to observe participant activities adequately, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures •Current certification not necessary - certification/training is available!
Red Cross Lifeguard Prerequisite Skills 300 yard continuous swim (freestyle or breaststroke) demonstrating endurance and breath control (face in the water) 2 minutes treading water legs only (no hands) Brick rescue within 1 minute 40 seconds (without the use of goggles, swim 20 yards, dive 7-10 feet to retrieve 10lb object, return to starting point on back with both hands on brick, exit without using ladder or steps) YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Prerequisite Skills 25 yards Front Crawl (with side-breathing) 25 yards Back Crawl 25 yards Breaststroke 25 yards Butterfly (or your best attempt) 25 yards Side Stroke 25 yards Elementary Backstroke
