Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
Under supervision, keeps clinic and hospital buildings and grounds in a clean, neat, and orderly condition; launders hospital linens and clothing; performs minor building maintenance work; and performs other job-related work as needed. SUMMARY All employees are expected to perform their duties in alignment with CIH's mission, values, and vision. This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks that contribute to a high level of customer satisfaction, patient care, and operational excellence, while treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways, hospital rooms and wards, dry mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using vacuum cleaners and powered floor scrubbers and buffers Dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture Empties waste baskets Washes walls, windows, and blinds Collects soiled linen and places at pickup point Receives and delivers clean linen Keeps rest rooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls Cleans mirrors, sink and water fountains Dusts ledges and woodwork Removes dirt and greasy film from surfaces Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissues, hand towels and soap Notes condition of rest room and reports water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance Keeps an adequate stock of cleaning materials and equipment Gathers and disposes of trash and waste Washes door frames, lighting vents, ceiling fixtures and partitions using ladders Removes stains from surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions Cleans medical treatment areas according to established procedures and observing aseptic techniques Cleans isolation areas according to correct procedures Uses specified cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting agents Retrieves and returns cart of supplies and equipment Cleans and maintains equipment used in performance of duties, changing brushes, accessories, and stores properly Maintains linen supplies in each area including inventory, restocking, and cleaning area Performs special clean and disinfectant procedures under direction of nursing staff.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of custodial and laundry supplies, equipment, and methods. Understands proper materials and procedures used for cleaning purposes. Performs basic cleaning, sanitation, and infection control techniques. Knowledge of basic hand tools used in routine building maintenance. Uses proper body mechanics to perform the assigned tasks. Has safe work practices. Ability to operate a variety of cleaning and laundry equipment. Can clean and care for medical facilities. Follows oral and written instructions and can read signs. Performs minor building maintenance and grounds keeping work. Reads and writes English sufficiently to perform assigned duties. Deals with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, medical staff, and other fellow workers. Must be able to effectively communicate in English and Spanish.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic setting. Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and CIH staff is required. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinical environments. Adherence to safety policies and health regulations is mandatory.
ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Comply with organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Adhere to all HIPAA regulations as outlined in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills for interdepartmental and intradepartmental interactions. Perform other duties as assigned by physicians and supervisors. Complete additional administrative tasks and projects as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Maintain manual dexterity for operating computers, telephones, office, and medical equipment as necessary. Possess corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Work efficiently in a fast-paced and occasionally stressful environment. Handle frequent interruptions and manage potentially emotional situations involving accidents, injuries, or deaths. Respond effectively to emergency and crisis situations following established policies. Mitigate risks associated with exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
