Benefits 401(k) and 401(k) matching Health, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance Employee assistance program Paid time off Retirement plan Job Description The Resident Associate (RA) plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of Ascencia's emergency shelter and ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all residents. This position provides direct supervision of clients and the shelter facility, coordinates meals and activities, and maintains shelter cleanliness and safety. The RA is often the first point of contact for client concerns and is expected to use good judgment, problem-solving skills, and compassion while enforcing shelter rules and policies. This position includes day, swing, and overnight shifts and may include weekend and holiday coverage. Duties and Responsibilities Shelter Operations & Client Supervision Oversee client activities, including meals, hygiene routines, and chores Monitor shelter for safety and security during assigned shift Respond to client needs using sound judgment and appropriate de-escalation techniques Supervise clients to ensure compliance with shelter rules and policies Complete shift reports and maintain accurate incident documentation Facility Maintenance Perform light cleaning and maintenance of shelter areas including restrooms, showers, kitchen, and dining areas Remove trash from shelter and common areas Stock restrooms and supply areas as needed Report any equipment malfunctions or facility concerns to supervisor Complete site maintenance tasks as assigned Guest Chef & Client Support Assist volunteer guest chefs with meal service (dinner or breakfast depending on shift) Coordinate shower and laundry schedules for clients Support shelter routines and maintain structure during mealtimes and lights-out Overnight Duties Monitor shelter and ensure a calm, quiet, and safe environment during sleeping hours Respond to any unexpected client needs during overnight hours Conduct regular walk-throughs of the facility Document overnight activity accurately in the shift log Qualifications and Requirements Previous experience working in homeless services or a related social service setting preferred Ability to maintain composure, exercise good judgment, and respond to crises effectively Strong interpersonal and communication skills Comfortable working independently and as part of a team Experience in light facility maintenance is preferred Must be physically able to lift, carry supplies, and complete cleaning and maintenance tasks Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable but not required Must be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 25 lbs Frequent standing, walking, bending, and cleaning Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and physically navigate a multi-room facility Use of computer and phone for shift documentation Other Conditions This job description is not intended to be a complete list of responsibilities or tasks.
