Job Description
Overview Join the Dogtopia Lakewood team as a Canine Coach and help create a safe, fun, and engaging environment where dogs can play, learn, and thrive. In this energetic role, you will supervise and interact with dogs throughout the day while maintaining a clean, safe, and structured play environment. As a Canine Coach, you will be responsible for monitoring dog behavior, maintaining appropriate playgroup ratios, providing enrichment, preventing and managing conflicts, and ensuring every dog receives attentive and compassionate care. Your energy, patience, and attention to detail will help create an exceptional experience for both our dogs and their pet parents. Responsibilities Supervise playgroups and actively engage with dogs throughout the day. Maintain safe dog-to-coach ratios and follow all Dogtopia safety procedures. Monitor dog behavior and body language to identify signs of stress, overstimulation, or potential conflict. Use proper body-blocking and intervention techniques to safely manage play and prevent fights. Provide enrichment activities, structured play, and positive interactions throughout the day. Ensure fresh water is available and playrooms remain clean, organized, and safe. Clean and sanitize playrooms, equipment, bowls, kennels, and other areas throughout the day. Pick up waste promptly and maintain a clean environment for dogs and staff. Safely move dogs between playrooms, boarding areas, and other parts of the facility. Follow proper procedures for dogs entering and leaving playgroups. Communicate concerns about a dog's behavior, health, or wellbeing to management. Provide excellent customer service by treating every dog and pet parent with care and professionalism. Assist with feeding, administering approved care, and other dog-care responsibilities as assigned. Follow all Dogtopia policies, safety procedures, and applicable animal-care regulations. Requirements Previous experience working with dogs is preferred but not required. Genuine love and compassion for dogs of all sizes, breeds, and personalities. Ability to confidently handle multiple dogs in a fast-paced environment. Strong awareness of canine body language and behavior. Ability to remain calm and focused during high-energy or stressful situations. Comfortable standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working on your feet for extended periods. Ability to safely lift and handle dogs and cleaning supplies. Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability. Excellent attention to detail and willingness to maintain a high standard of cleanliness. Ability to work independently while also following direction from supervisors and management. Must be comfortable working in an environment that can be loud, active, and physically demanding.
