Job Description

Job SummaryThe Housekeeping (Environmental Services) Technician at Union General Hospital is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role directly supports patient safety, infection prevention, and overall hospital operations by following established cleaning standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClean and disinfect patient rooms, offices, public areas, restrooms, and clinical spaces according to hospital protocolsPerform terminal cleaning of patient rooms following discharge or transferProperly handle and dispose of medical and non-medical waste in compliance with infection control and safety guidelinesClean and restock patient care areas with necessary suppliesOperate housekeeping equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and cartsRespond promptly to spill clean-ups, isolation rooms, and special cleaning requestsFollow infection control standards, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns to the supervisorMaintain accurate documentation as required (room cleaning logs, isolation tracking, etc.)Provide courteous and respectful service to patients, visitors, and staff at all timesPerform other duties as assigned by the EVS Supervisor or management
QualificationsEducation & Experience:
High school diploma or GED preferredPrevious housekeeping or healthcare experience preferred but not requiredOn-the-job training provided
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfecting techniquesAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsUnderstanding of infection control and safety practicesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detailProfessional appearance and positive attitudePhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periodsAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequentlyAbility to lift and move up to 50 poundsAbility to push/pull housekeeping carts and equipmentAbility to work in isolation rooms and wear required PPEWork EnvironmentHospital setting with exposure to cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and infectious materialsMay require working weekends, holidays, and rotating shiftsAdherence to all hospital safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies (HIPAA)Standards of PerformanceConsistently meets hospital cleaning and infection prevention standardsMaintains a clean, organized work areaDemonstrates reliability, punctuality, and professionalismSupports a positive patient experience
