Houseman Position Summary:
The Houseman is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation of public areas throughout the community. This position supports the Environmental Services Department by performing routine cleaning, trash removal, recycling collection, and general houseman duties. The Houseman assists in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff while ensuring departmental standards are maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean and maintain public areas, hallways, dining rooms, common areas, offices, and other assigned spaces. Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and sanitize assigned areas. Clean walls, baseboards, light fixtures, and other surfaces as assigned. Collect, transport, and dispose of trash and recyclables in designated areas. Maintain exterior trash receptacles and dumpster areas. Assist with housekeeping-related tasks as needed. Maintain housekeeping storage areas and equipment in a clean and organized manner. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and supply needs to management. Follow all infection control, safety, and OSHA guidelines. Properly use cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE). Provide courteous and professional service to residents, visitors, and staff. Assist with special cleaning projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous housekeeping, janitorial, custodial, environmental services, or houseman experience preferred but not required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, and staff. Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work Environment The Houseman works throughout the community, including resident living areas, dining rooms, common areas, offices, stairwells, and exterior grounds. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and other environmental conditions may occur. Employees are expected to follow all safety and infection control procedures at all times.
