Job Description

Medical Facility Housekeeper Job Summary:
The Medical Facility Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is critical in preventing the spread of infections and ensuring compliance with healthcare sanitation standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms, exam rooms, surgical areas, offices, and common areas Follow strict infection control protocols, including proper use of disinfectants and personal protective equipment (PPE) Clean and sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, bed rails, and medical equipment surfaces Safely handle and dispose of medical waste, biohazard materials, and sharps in accordance with regulations Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer in all designated areas Operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums, and carpet cleaners Respond promptly to spills, contamination events, or emergency cleaning situations Follow established procedures for isolation rooms and areas requiring specialized cleaning Maintain cleaning logs and documentation as required by facility policies Adhere to OSHA, CDC, and facility-specific safety and sanitation guidelines
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience, preferably in a healthcare setting Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper dilution, and safe handling procedures Ability to follow detailed instructions and infection control protocols Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25-50 pounds as needed
Skills and Competencies:
Time management and organizational skills Reliability and consistency in task completion Understanding of confidentiality and patient privacy (HIPAA awareness) Ability to work independently and as part of a team Effective communication skills
Work Environment:
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and potentially infectious materials Requires use of PPE including gloves, masks, gowns, and eye protection May involve working evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on facility needs
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged standing and walking Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks
