QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Has successfully completed all training required by state law and local board policy.
Knowledge Of:
  • Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites
  • Specific diagnoses, conditions, and/or disabilities as it relates to students' needs on your assigned route(s)
  • Operation of lifts, wheel chairs, seat belts, restraining harnesses and wheel chair clamping devices
  • Safe practices concerning school bus transportation
  • Basic record-keeping techniques
  • Applicable sections of the KY Administrative Regulations and other applicable laws
  • Health and Safety regulations
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
To ride a school bus for students with disabilities and assist the school bus driver in maintaining a safe environment, including following healthcare and emergency safety procedures if needed while the bus is in operation.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ride a school bus for children with disabilities, monitor children and assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation assuring safety of students.
  • Operate equipment, such as wheelchairs, tie-downs, seat belts, harnesses, lifts and other adaptive equipment as necessary and assist driver by assuring students are properly secured.
  • Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students
  • Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
  • Understand and relate to students with disabilities.
  • Assist with student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required.
  • Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
  • Assist in meeting a wide array of student needs
  • Provides written records of violations of the student code to the Director of Transportation.
  • Collects and turns over to the school secretary those personal items left on the bus by students.
  • Maintain proper records and documentation
  • Maintain knowledge of Emergency Evacuation Procedures
  • Safely lift students according to established guidelines
  • Establish and maintain kind and professional working relationships with others including, but not limited to: school administrators, teachers, aides, and parents.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Observe health and safety regulations
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all students
