Monitor Yard Manager Job Overview:
SPED Cab Monitors are assigned to monitor and assist students with special needs while they are being transported to and from school.
Responsibilities:
The Bus Monitors are responsible for implementing approved behavioral management strategies to ensure safe transportation of students to and from school. A special education cab monitor is responsible for being at work on time every day, establishing positive relationships with students and parents. Assisting parents and school-based staff with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of students on the bus Communicating with paras, teachers, school leaders, and parents concerning relevant student background, medical considerations, and behavior plans as appropriate Partnering with the bus driver to ensure that the correct students board the bus and are dropped off at the correct stops Ensuring students' seat belts and Child Restraint Systems are secured while riding the bus; assisting the bus driver with operating wheelchair clamps Demonstrate ability to prevent, intervene, or de-escalate, disruptive or dangerous student behavior Report all incidents/accidents and complete required reports as needed in writing Attend general and need-specific training courses as directed Capable of assessing situations in emergencies and quickly reacting with necessary measures for the protection and well-being of all students. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of school bus safety Ability to: Ability to operate a wide variety of safety equipment and adaptive equipment on buses, including wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, Child Safety Restraint Systems, and other safety equipment, in a safe and effective manner Move a wheelchair on and off the bus as needed Qualifications -
Required:
Must be 18 years of age or older High School Diploma or GED Ability to enter/exit bus via steps repeatedly Ability to lift 25-49 lbs Proficiency in English Qualifications -
Preferred:
Previous experience working in a school setting and or with school aged children is preferred
