Job Overview Join our team as a dedicated School Bus Driver, where you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school each day. This 30-hour position offers an energetic and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the community by providing safe, punctual, and courteous transportation services. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for transporting students safely while maintaining a positive and disciplined environment onboard. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. Assist students with wheelchair assistance and provide support for children with special needs or disabilities. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and handling unexpected incidents. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to promote a safe environment during transit. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness. Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, students, and dispatchers using clear English or bilingual communication skills. Respond quickly to traffic changes or road hazards to ensure passenger safety at all times. Uphold school policy knowledge and adhere to all transportation safety regulations throughout your shift. Complete accurate logs, incident reports, and shift documentation as required. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, heavy lifting techniques, and emergency response procedures for transportation. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform quick responses to traffic changes and maintain focus under pressure. Familiarity with student discipline strategies, behavior management, and childcare practices. Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems for basic troubleshooting and safety checks. Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable to foster a caring environment. Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements for school bus or commercial driving; knowledge of state and local commercial driving laws is essential. CPR certification, first aid training, including child-specific first aid procedures. Ability to lift heavy objects safely when necessary for vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance.
