Job Description

The Bus Monitor provides support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles. This is a 10-month position with summers off. We have both, on-call and full-time Monitor openings Full-time School Bus Monitors are eligible for benefits as listed below. Job Duties Assists special education students and other passengers by providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations. Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) Assists bus driver to ensure a clean, safe environment for student passengers (e.g. sweeping, mopping, washing windows, disposing of trash, etc.) Enforces rules/regulations and maintains student safety and well-being. Interacts with teachers and parents by effectively communicating with students and dealing with behavioral issues that impact safe transportation. Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. Documents student activities, conveys information, and/or complies with established guidelines. (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) Requirements Related job experiences desired (paraprofessional, CNA, Direct Support Professional, etc.) CPR/First Aid Certificate/AED preferred, or willingness to obtain Must pass a pre-employment background check; DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
