Job Description

Mechanicville City School District is continuously seeking patient, dependable, and safety-minded individuals to join our Transportation Department as Substitute Bus Attendants . In this role, you will work alongside our bus drivers to ensure students, including those with specialized needs, have a safe, supportive, and comfortable ride to and from school each day.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure Student Safety:
Assist students with safely boarding, seating, and exiting the bus.
Specialized Support:
Help secure wheelchairs, seatbelts, harness systems, and child safety restraint seats as needed. Maintain a
Positive Environment:
Monitor student behavior during transit, promote safe habits, and assist the driver in maintaining a calm atmosphere.
Emergency Assistance:
Help execute emergency evacuation drills and assist students in the event of an emergency.
Student Care:
Provide individual attention and support to students with special physical, medical, or behavioral needs
Job Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Background Clearance:
Must clear a New York State Education Department (NYSED) criminal history background check and fingerprinting.
Physical Capabilities:
Ability to bend, lift, assist students, and operate bus safety equipment as needed
Skills & Attributes:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. A patient, compassionate, and reliable demeanor. Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and professionally.
