Position Summary The School Bus Aide assists in the safe pick-up, transport, and delivery of students to and from school. This position supports the bus driver in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students and plays an essential role in ensuring each student's safety and well-being during transit. Key Responsibilities Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus at designated stops and at the school. Support students with special needs by operating and securing wheelchairs or other mobility devices, including proper use of lifts and restraints. Secure student safety devices as required during transport. Help maintain discipline and promote respectful, safe behavior on the bus. De-escalate situations calmly and report any incidents or concerns promptly to the Transportation Supervisor. Assist the bus driver during emergencies, inclement weather, and other situations to ensure student safety. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or designee. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Proficient in student management with a patient, supportive, and professional approach. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Physical Demands The physical demands described below represent those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to sit for an extended period of time Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 pounds Ability to kneel, crouch, bend and reach to retrieve and handle materials and supplies Ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating Adequate vision to perform responsibilities and duties Ability to operate a motor vehicle Work Environment This position requires regular presence on a school bus and may include outdoor exposure during boarding and drop-off, assisting students in varying weather conditions, and supporting needs in a moving vehicle environment. Must maintain all required clearances, pass pre-employment drug screening, and provide proof of a negative TB test.
