Under general direction, plans, organizes, coordinates, and provides direction and oversight for one or more recreation programs and/or facilities; supervises programs that may include senior center, youth, and adult sports, leisure and arts programs, special interest classes, and community events; to coordinate operations of recreation and sports facilities, including senior center, and recreation centers; to provide administrative support and program assistance to the Recreation Manager and Director of Community Services; and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates assigned recreation services, programs, and City-wide activities at one or multiple sites for seniors, sports, arts and crafts, dance, outdoor education, special events, or other activities . Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, practices, policies, procedures, and work standards for assigned special projects and programs. Supervises, coordinates, and participates in the day-to-day operations of one or more centers and/or facilities; monitors the proper and safe use of program facilities by the public; interprets and applies policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations; assists in education about the enforcement of rules and regulations. Participates in the monitoring of contracted services related to facility maintenance and security. Coordinates food distribution programs, as assigned. Works with community groups and residents in the development and coordination of programs; oversees and coordinates scheduling of activities, and special events. Reviews current programs and makes recommendations for new or enhanced programming; identifies resource needs. Plans, organizes, conducts, and supervises recreation programs, group activities, senior programs, sports, and special events, as assigned. Performs public relations work within the community and with community groups pertaining to specific programs, events, and special activities. Organizes, coordinates, and attends a variety of special events; identifies and selects vendors. Develops program budgets; estimates costs of supplies and materials and orders supplies and materials for projects and activities; maintain records of purchase orders; assists in developing budget figures for specified areas; monitors expenditures and revenues. Acts as a representative to educational institutions, community groups, social services providers, private businesses, patrons, residents, and others regarding questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of program operations, activities and services. Issues, collects, inventories, and properly maintains City equipment and supplies; maintains stock and orders replenishment of supplies, and new items as required. Participates in the selection of staff and volunteers. Monitors volunteers (e.g., labor participation programs), to ensure they are meeting City, departmental, and program requirements. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of programs and activities. Sets up rooms for activities or rentals. Ensures legal and City restrictions are followed as related to the programs supervised. Maintains effective communication and working relationships with patrons, participants, clients, xo-workers, City Department representatives, and outside agencies. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Principles and practices of development and implementation of a variety of recreation programs. Recreational and social needs and interests of the community. Equipment, rules and field preparation for team sports. Methods and techniques used in marketing and promotion. Procedures and techniques of program budgeting. Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and organizational policies and procedures relevant to assigned area of responsibility. Principles and procedures of record-keeping, Recent and on-going developments, current literature, and sources of information related to the operations of the assigned program. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff. The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed. City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.

Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Education/Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, Public Administration, Business Administration, Sociology, or a closely related field is preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in coordinating recreation and/or community services programs. An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
License or Certificate:
Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment. CPR/First Aid Certification required within the first month of appointment to the position. Fit After Fifty Certification required within the first six months of appointment to the position. Work release Certification required within the first six months of appointment to the position.

Environmental Conditions :
Employees in this class generally work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing City-wide policies and procedures.
Physical Demands :
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including use of standard office equipment, including a computer; and to operate a motor vehicle to visit various City development and meeting sites. Vision is required to read printed materials and a computer screen. Hearing and speech is required to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Touch is required in order to handle documents, and use a computer. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 20 pounds.
