Job Description
Lead. Inspire. Enrich Community Well-Being. The City of Encinitas is seeking a Full-Time Recreation Supervisor I/II to manage Adult & Senior Programs at the Encinitas Community & Senior Center. In this impactful leadership role, you will oversee senior nutrition services, transportation program, enrichment classes, volunteer engagement, health and fitness offerings, and special events that enhance the lives of adults and older adults in our community. This position provides daily operational oversight; supervises staff, contract instructors, and volunteers; and ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, and inclusive services. Responsibilities also include managing program budgets and contracts, maintaining records, coordinating marketing and outreach materials, fostering strong relationships with community partners, and ensuring facilities remain safe, welcoming, and aligned with the City's commitment to exceptional recreation services. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an organized, energetic recreation professional with experience supporting adult and senior programs and services. They excel at supervising staff and volunteers, coordinating multiple programs and events, and delivering high-quality, inclusive services for older adults. They are skilled in budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, and building strong relationships with community partners. Flexible, creative, and customer-focused, they thrive in a fast-paced environment and bring strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Candidates with Level II experience demonstrate confidence managing larger-scale operations, complex budgets, commissions, and major recreation facilities. Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Programming and Leadership, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position such as those listed above. In addition to the above experience, Level II requirements include: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration/Systems Management or a related field, and one year of progressively responsible full-time experience related to recreation programming including budgeting and supervision. Plus, a minimum of 12 months of work experience in a Recreation Supervisor I level position. Deadline to apply is 5 pm Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
