Nature Camp Counselor (Seasonal) Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and energetic Day Camp Counselor to join our team immediately! If you enjoy working with children, love the outdoors, and are passionate about wildlife and environmental education, we'd love to hear from you.
Schedule :
This is a seasonal position (6-8 weeks) beginning immediately and running through late August, with an expected end date between August 21st and the end of August depending on scheduling. The position is Monday through Friday, averaging 26-40 hours per week based on enrollment and program needs.
Compensation :
Hourly, non-exempt position with a rate of $17.00 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care's Adventure's Camp provides children with an unforgettable experience exploring nature, learning about wildlife, participating in hands-on science activities, creating crafts, playing games, and developing a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Each week features a unique theme and curriculum, making every camp a new adventure. Camp Counselors play a vital role in creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment where campers can learn, explore, and grow.
WHO WE ARE
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc. (LTWC) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned and injured wild birds and mammals. LTWC operates under permits issued by California Fish & Wildlife, the United States Department of the Interior Fish & Wildlife Service and the United States Department of Agriculture. Our 27-acre location includes multiple wildlife enclosures and a new multi-purpose administration and animal care hospital building.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise campers throughout the day while ensuring their safety and well-being. Lead and assist with outdoor games, nature hikes, crafts, STEM activities, wildlife education, and team-building exercises. Create and implement weekly themed curriculum and educational activities. Encourage camper participation while fostering confidence, curiosity, and respect for wildlife and nature. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive camp environment. Assist with daily camp setup, cleanup, and organization. Communicate professionally with campers, parents, volunteers, and fellow staff. Follow all camp safety procedures and emergency protocols. Serve as a point of contact for parent communication and camper updates Serve as a positive role model through leadership, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Perform other tasks as needed to support the organization's goals and mission.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described represent those required to perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to be active throughout the day while performing job duties. Ability to actively participate in camp activities throughout the day. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk on uneven terrain, hike, bend, kneel, squat, and stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. LTWC will make reasonable accommodations for known disabilities as required by applicable law.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment. Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire. Reliable transportation to and from work. Ability to work the scheduled camp dates and maintain reliable attendance. Commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for every camper. Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience working with children in camps, schools, childcare, recreation, or similar settings is preferred. Passion for wildlife, conservation, environmental education, and inspiring children to connect with nature. Dependable, responsible, flexible, and enthusiastic.
