Job Description
The City of Durango is looking for a Recreation Supervisor to oversee our gymnastics program, supporting participants from preschool classes through competitive USA Gymnastics XCEL and Boys Developmental programs. In this role, you'll combine leadership, coaching, program development, and facility operations to create safe, engaging experiences for participants of all ages and skill levels. You'll supervise staff, develop new programs, help market offerings, build relationships with families, and regularly teach gymnastics classes while providing coaching and operational support as needed. What You'll Do in
This Role:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the City's gymnastics program, including recreational classes, competitive teams, special events, and facility activities. Plan, develop, evaluate, and continuously improve gymnastics programs that meet the interests and needs of participants of all ages and skill levels. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and support full-time, part-time, seasonal staff, and volunteers. Teach gymnastics classes for preschool, school-age, pre-team, and Women's XCEL Bronze-Platinum athletes while providing shift coverage as needed to support daily operations. Oversee recreational classes and competitive Women's XCEL and Boys Developmental programs. Build positive relationships with participants, families, user groups, and community members by providing excellent customer service and responding to questions or concerns. Promote gymnastics programs through marketing, social media, printed materials, and community outreach to increase participation and awareness. Monitor facility conditions and gymnastics equipment, coordinate preventative maintenance, identify safety concerns, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment. Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and expense tracking while helping develop policies, procedures, and operational improvements for the gymnastics program. Stay current on USA Gymnastics XCEL coaching requirements, SafeSport practices, risk management standards, and industry trends to support high-quality programming and athlete safety. Support department initiatives and perform other related duties as needed to help Parks and Recreation meet the needs of the community.
You Have:
Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, communications, sociology, or a related field. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in recreation services, including at least one (1) year supervising staff, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid driver's license. CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain them upon hire. You Will Succeed in
