May-July Male counselors needed Position Summary The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising, mentoring, and engaging campers in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. Counselors lead daily activities, support campers' social and emotional development, ensure safety protocols are followed, and help create a positive camp community. Key Responsibilities Camper Supervision & Safety Provide constant supervision to campers to ensure physical and emotional safety. Enforce camp rules and safety guidelines at all times. Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or behavioral issues. Program Leadership Lead or assist with camp activities, including sports, arts & crafts, games, outdoor adventures, and special events. Lead a cabin chat each night. Encourage participation, teamwork, and positive attitudes among campers. Help plan, set up, and clean up daily activities. Assume an active role to incorporate nature, conservation and earth awareness. Must be committed to carrying out the basic team purpose of YMCA Camp Winona and the Volusia Flagler YMCA and the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Camper Support & Mentorship Build positive relationships with campers and act as a role model. Support campers with conflict resolution and emotional needs. Promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for campers of all backgrounds. Team Collaboration Work cooperatively with other counselors and camp leadership. Attend staff training, daily meetings, and professional development sessions. Communicate effectively with camp staff regarding camper needs and incidents. Qualifications Minimum age requirement (typically 16-18+, depending on camp). Prior experience working with children (preferred but not required). Ability to lead or assist with recreational activities. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp). Working Conditions Outdoor and indoor environments; active, hands-on work. Extended time in heat, sun, or outdoor elements. Flexible schedule including mornings, afternoons, and possible overnights (if applicable). Personal Attributes Positive, enthusiastic, "camp spirit" attitude. Responsible, dependable, and able to stay calm under pressure. Compassionate, patient, and supportive with children.Job Types:
