Job Description

Position Summary:
The Assistant Camp Director plays a key leadership role in the planning and execution of programs at YMCA Camp Immokalee. This position provides primary leadership for group retreats and special events, while also overseeing day camp and School's Out programs and supporting overnight camp operations. The Assistant Camp Director serves as an on-site leader for staff, campers, families, and group guests, helping ensure programs are well-run, safe, and aligned with YMCA values.
Essential Functions:
Group Retreats & Events:
Serve as the lead coordinator for group retreats and special events, ensuring seamless planning and execution. Work with rental groups to customize their camp experience, including scheduling activities, lodging, and meals. Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff to safely and effectively run group retreats and special events. Ensure all retreat and event logistics (e.g., facility setup, activity scheduling) are thoughtfully planned and communicated. Collaborate with other camp staff to provide high-quality customer service to rental groups, ensuring they have a positive experience. Develop and maintain relationships with churches, schools, businesses, and community groups to grow retreat and event participation.
Day Camp & School's Out Days:
Oversee all aspects of day camp and School's Out days, ensuring engaging, safety, and mission-aligned programming. Supervise and support day camp staff, providing guidance, training, and ongoing mentorship. Serve as the primary point of contact for day camp families, addressing concerns and ensuring an excellent camper experience. Assist with camper check-in/check-out procedures and ensure smooth daily operations. Support and implement behavior management strategies that create a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for all campers. Ensure all safety policies and procedures are upheld in day camp programming.
Overnight Camp Support:
Assist with summer overnight camp programming, supporting activities, special events, and camper experience. Help supervise seasonal staff, ensuring they receive the support needed to succeed. Serve as an on-site leader and problem solver during overnight camp sessions. Assist with camp-wide events, including theme days, evening programs, and staff training.
General Responsibilities:
Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and fun camp culture for campers, staff, and guests. Ensure all programs are conducted in a safe and organized manner that aligns with YMCA standards. Participate in staff training and team meetings to ensure smooth operations. Support some shared administrative tasks as part of the team, though the primary focus is program execution. Manage basic parent communication and conflict resolution as needed. Be an enthusiastic ambassador for Camp Immokalee in all interactions.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 21 years of age. Bachelor's degree in hospitality, recreation, education, or a related field preferred. Experience working with youth programs, camps, or recreation preferred. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and guide seasonal staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to diverse groups. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities. Passion for working with children, creating meaningful experiences, and supporting positive youth development. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and overnights as needed. CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before the first shift with children). Must pass Level 2 Background Screening. Level 2 is a fingerprint check of state and federal criminal history information conducted through the Florida Department of law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in a camp setting, in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and participate in active camp programs. Requires long hours on your feet, including walking across campgrounds and leading activities.
