Supports the successful execution of sporting events within Sarasota County facilities.
Job Description:
Sports Tourism Initiatives
  • Volunteers Direct management of the Sports Tourism Volunteer Ambassador program.
Participates in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities; develops strategies for the achievement of these goals. Collaborates with sports tourism partners and event rights holders to identify volunteer needs for events which can be fulfilled through the program. Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and placing volunteers within the ambassador program. Collaborates with multiple and diverse partners including community organizations, service clubs, businesses, schools, and the general public; provides information and referrals regarding the volunteer program and volunteer opportunities to community groups and individuals through presentations and other outreach activities. Develops and presents orientation sessions to new volunteers, educating them about expectations, duties and upcoming opportunities. Maintains records and develops reports concerning program operations and program effectiveness. Develops and updates volunteer program materials including flyers, forms, manuals, and procedures. Tracks expenditures; projects future funding needs; maintains relevant records and documentation. Sports Tourism Initiatives
  • Events and Facilities Serves as an advocate for sports tourism within all PRNR and County (Fire, Emergency Management, Planning & Development Services, etc.
) departments; assists in identifying opportunities to improve sports tourism. Communicate needs of sports event rights holders to PRNR and County departments, in order to maximize resources provided to support event. Guide sports event rights holders and Visit Sarasota County through reservation and permitting procedures for various county facilities. Provide onsite logistic support for major sports tourism events supported by PRNR and/or VSC as needed. Assist in the development of locally owned sports events in partnership with VSC, facility operators and other local organizations. Utilize county facilities to maximize sports tourism opportunities while supporting the overall mission and intended use as designated by PRNR. Research best practices for development and operation of sports facilities and hosting in partnership with Visit Sarasota and other partners. Assists in the development and implementation of policy and/or guidelines detailing the parameters of usage of County owned assets for sports tourism related events. Contract Administration Performs contractual oversight of assigned responsibilities regarding sports tourism related agreements. Fosters communication and community engagement between organizations, the County and the community. Ensures contractual obligations are met. Assists in the development of strategies, oversight practices and guidelines for the long-term use of County owned assets. Serves as the fixed asset designee for County owned assets contained within the facilities. Assists in the evaluation of existing facility agreements. Assists in the identification of opportunities and negotiates modification to agreements leveraging availability to fully optimize use of County owned facilities. Assists and facilitates activities necessary regarding repair/renovations and capital project management within county-owned major league facilities; assists with the coordination with contractors, Facilities Maintenance, and clubs in management of work.
About You Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Sports Management, Hospitality, Event Management, Facilities, Recreation education, Public Administration, Business or job-related field and two (2) years job-related experience OR
  • Six (6) years professional job-related experience can be substituted at management discretion for the required education
  • OR•Related professional program/ project management may substitute for the required education at management discretion.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid within the first six (6) months of employment.

Knowledge of community recreation facility and park management Ability to plan, organize and implement programs/activities as necessary Knowledge of legislative/regulatory requirements. Advanced verbal and written communication skills Ability to identify, interpret and implement changes Knowledge of sports tourism trends Ability to organize and present information Ability to respond to policy/legal/regulatory issues Uses sound independent judgement Possesses excellent time management skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the constituents, co-workers, elected and appointed officials of diverse backgrounds Uses extreme care and tact in responses to executives and external customers Ability to lift 20 pounds Ability to work outside during all seasons Intermediate computer skills including Outlook, MS Office, reservation/ volunteer software systems and other relevant County operating/tracking systems
