Job Description

JOB Performs professional work in planning, organizing, and conducting a recreation program consisting of a variety of recreational specialties and activities; and performs other related duties as required. There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation - Recreation Division at the Honoka'a Sports Complex Gym. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plans, organizes, schedules, and directs competitive and non-competitive games, contests, arts and crafts activities for various age groups. Plans, organizes, and conducts aquatic recreational programs, special events and instructional water safety and certification classes for various age groups and skill levels for the County of Hawai'i. Recruits participants and stimulates interest in recreation programs among children and adults. Provides technical support and technical supervision to Senior Pool Lifeguards regarding programming at island wide County aquatic facilities. Reviews program proposals and plans; coordinates, assists, and provides guidance on class and program planning with pool facility personnel. Participates in planning and directing special events. Plans and conducts excursions, picnics, and camps. Reviews and evaluates activities and makes recommendations to improve programs. Supervises the work of lower level staff members and volunteer workers as assigned. Provides administrative supervision for staff in an assigned cluster of facilities. Officiates games and contests. Develops and maintains good rapport with community groups, organizations, schools, and the public; assists as liaison between the public and departmental administration. Performs program registration duties to include collecting fees and issuing receipts, and may assist with facility use permits as directed; deposits funds in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Participates in district and county-wide events or programs. Serves on special committees. Attends training sessions, clinics, workshops, staff meetings, and community meetings. Conducts and/or participates in meetings and staff training activities. Maintains recreation or aquatic inventory; issues and receives uniforms, equipment, supplies, etc. Researches, compiles, and prepares reports including, but not limited to, attendance and leave records, daily activities/log, incident, accident, vandalism, quarterly/annual participation statistics, and other reports as required. Assists in conducting pre-employment assessments and interviews. Operates vehicle to perform work-related duties. Prepares and submits reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
