Job Description

Description:
The Recreation Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of assigned recreation programs and services for the District. This position supports the Recreation Manager in delivering safe, inclusive, and engaging recreational opportunities for the community, including programs such as camps, athletics, youth enrichment, senior activities, special events, and before/after school programming. The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day program operations, staff supervision, customer service, scheduling, and program support while ensuring alignment with the District's mission, policies, and operational standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities Recruit & Support Staff:
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, scheduling, and supervising part-time, seasonal, and volunteer staff.
Train & Develop Staff:
Provide orientation and ongoing guidance related to customer service, safety procedures, program expectations, and District policies.
Monitor Program Operations:
Oversee daily program activities, monitor staffing levels, address operational issues, and ensure quality service delivery.
Coach & Evaluate:
Provide feedback to assigned staff, assist with performance evaluations, document concerns, and support corrective action processes when needed.
Support Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with other departments to coordinate program logistics, facility use, events, and community partnerships.
Ensure Compliance & Safety:
Ensure adherence to District policies, safety procedures, risk management practices, and applicable licensing or regulatory requirements.
Delegation & Coverage:
Assist in establishing clear operational procedures and provide leadership coverage during the Recreation Manager's absence as assigned.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating assigned recreation programs and services, which may include but are not limited to: Day Camps Before & After School Programs Athletic Programs Youth & Teen Programs Senior Programs Special Events Instructional & Enrichment Programs Additional responsibilities include: Coordinate daily operations of assigned recreation programs and activities. Assist with developing program schedules, activity plans, and staffing assignments. Monitor program participation, attendance, and customer satisfaction. Maintain accurate program records, reports, registrations, supply inventories, and evaluations. Assist with program budgeting, purchasing, and expense tracking to support fiscal responsibility. Ensure facilities, equipment, and program areas are safe, clean, and prepared for participant use. Respond professionally to participant, parent, and community inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Assist with marketing and promotional efforts to increase participation and community engagement. Support the planning and execution of community events, tournaments, trips, and seasonal activities. Coordinate with schools, vendors, community organizations, and instructors as needed. Assist with facility scheduling and operational support related to recreation programming. Maintain certifications and training required for assigned programs and responsibilities. Participate in professional development opportunities to remain current with recreation trends, safety standards, and best practices. Serve as a positive representative of the District through professional conduct and customer service. Perform other related duties to support the District's Mission and Vision.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks & Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in recreation programming, community services, camps, athletics, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Valid Illinois Driver's License. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required or ability to obtain within an established timeframe. Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification if applicable. Successful completion of background check.
