Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever level of ability at which they are currently functioning.
The Activites Assistant will:
Works with supervisor to complete assessments. Implements 1:1 and group TR activities with assigned residents. Adapts or modifies TR activities to meet resident's needs. Provides residents with TR resources, supplies, and equipment. Provides emotional support to residents and families. Provides a positive, supportive atmosphere during TR sessions. Ensures resident safety during TR sessions; follows health and safety policies, anticipates hazards, and takes appropriate measures. Participates in team meetings Communicates behavioral observations of residents to other staff and team members. Encourages resident involvement in recreation opportunities and provides necessary support to facilitate involvement. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information. Be knowledgeable of residents' rights. Ability to function independently, once work tasks has been assigned. Ability to gather assessment information in accordance with appropriate guidelines/standards (i.e., American Therapeutic Recreation Association Standards of Practice/Guidelines for TR Assistants; National Therapeutic Recreation Society Standards of Practice) Ability to plan and lead a variety of TR sessions. Ability to observe and document resident progress.
