Job Description
Description The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County, Department of Parks and Recreation, a nationally recognized and award-winning parks department, is seeking a Senior Recreation Specialist in our Youth and Countywide Sports Division. The Youth and Countywide Sports Division focuses on providing athletic opportunities for county residents and establishing a convenient, streamlined one-stop shop for all youth sports programs in the county. The division is dedicated to creating healthy communities by increasing the health and wellness benefits available through its programming and making it easier for youth to engage in athletics. A primary objective of this division is to contribute to healthy youth by providing a seamless sports experience for kids and connecting parents and coaches with opportunities to advance this initiative. The successful candidate will provide development, management and oversight of sports leagues, courses, clinics, community events, parks and recreation programs and classes for youth and adult participants and other related duties as assigned. The position requires an extremely high attention to detail and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for applying technical expertise in the development and management of diverse sports and recreation programs. Specialists at this level are required to have a high degree of specialized knowledge and expertise. Examples of Important Duties Plans, organizes, and coordinates countywide sports leagues/tournaments, teams, sports clinics, and workshops. Evaluate programs, staff, volunteers, vendors, and officials. Assists with recruiting and hiring staff and volunteers, approving timecards and leave requests. Assists with recruitment of staff, approves timecards. Manages the training and guidance to sports and recreation program personnel, coaches, league/program administrators. Coordinates with internal and external groups for department sponsored sports and recreation programs Inventories supplies/equipment and maintains proper storage. Addresses inquiries and complaints and recommends resolutions to problems. Establishes operating procedures and defines goals and objectives in managing sports and recreation programs. Works with Recreation Community Supervisor to manage and coordinate sports and recreation programs operating budgets, which include revenue-producing leagues and tournaments. Works with seasonal intermittent staff on program planning and improvements for budgeting purposes. Works with Recreation Community Supervisor to prepare financial reports and assists with recommendations of fees. Responsibleforroutinemonitoringofrevenuesandexpenditureswithinapproved budget. Manages programs records and reports in accordance with Commission policies and procedures. Prepares and maintains a variety of administrative records of the sports and recreation programs, such as revenue and expenses, inventory of supplies and equipment, electronic timecards, staff schedules and attendance. Provides excellent internal and external customer service. Sets a positive example for employees ensuring program participants and parents/guardians are treated in a prompt professional, and respectful manner. Assists marketing staff in advertising sports and recreation program opportunities and all associated activities through social media, websites, brochures, flyers, etc. Works collaboratively with other Commission divisions and partner agencies. Works effectively on assigned committees, special projects, and other duties as assigned. Effectively communicates and coordinates programs with Recreation Leisure Services and Parks Divisions. Performs special project work in the community, as needed.
