Bus Counselor--Sunrise Day Camp Greater Washignton

Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is seeking an enthusiastic person (18 or older) to be a bus counselor on our Prince Georges County bus route for our day camp located in Northern Virginia. For campers who ride the bus, their bus counselor is the first and last person they see at camp, setting the tone for their day. Bus counselors ride the bus to and from camp with campers, engaging them in songs and games, while supervising their health and well being. While at camp, this individual will be assigned as a group counselor or program specialist (depending on expertise and experience). Bus counselors receive an additional stipend for the time they spend on the bus to and from camp. Ideal candidates for this position are patient, reliable, creative, and love children. Bus counselors must be available for the duration of camp and training (June 22-August 7). Sunrise Day Camp--Greater Washington is a program of the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia and a member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide. This mission is achieved through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive Summer Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge. Ideal applicants will have a passion for our mission and help ensure the crucial day to day functioning of camp. This unique opportunity offers an incredibly rewarding summer spent helping to bring joy to children with cancer and their siblings. This position has a flat salary of $400/Week ($2,800) with an additional $125/week stipend for the 6 weeks of camp.

Qualifications:

At least 18 years of age Have experience working with children of a variety of ages, as well as children with special needs Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Experience managing multiple problems/situations at once Commitment to working collaboratively with others Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs of campers Possess a good sense of humor, a passion for working with children, and knowledge and experience in working with children with unique physical and social-emotional needs

Essential Position Duties:

Arrive at the bus stop before all camper families Communicate with camp families via camp app about arrival times of bus Maintain a safe, clean, healthy ride to camp Communicate with nurse and administrative team regarding conversations with families at the bus Maintain transportation documentation and bus bag Work as a group counselor when at camp Interested applicants will be asked to submit an application at https://www.sunrisedaycamp-greaterdc.org/
