3340 Hospital Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603 At HealthSource Saginaw, we are seeking an Activity Assistant who can work a flexible, as needed schedule that includes a minimum of one weekend per month for our Long Term Care Recreational Therapy department. As an Activity Assistant, you can expect to work closely with the Director of the program, patients, residents, families and visitors to create a fun and engaging environment for everyone. Observation and documentation are key skills in ensuring improvement as our team's work to Rise to Be Your Best.
What You'll Do:
The Activity Assistant will perform the full range of assignments including but not limited to: Assist the Activities Director in planning, developing, and promoting a monthly calendar of individual and group activities, ensuring visibility throughout the facility. Assess patient/resident interests and preferences by interviewing patients/residents and family members and incorporating feedback into activity planning. Coordinate, transport, and escort patients/residents to and from activity areas, including facilitating offsite outings and chaperoning events as needed. Conduct and facilitate therapeutic activities that support the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of patients/residents, including group and one-on-one in-room activities. Prepare activity supplies, equipment, and spaces, including setup and teardown for activities, special events, seasonal decorations, and room personalization. Document activity participation and progress accurately and consistently, including daily documentation, attendance tracking, progress notes, monthly summaries, care conference notes, and discharge summaries. Complete and maintain required assessments and care plans, including activity assessments, care plans, and quarterly or significant-change updates in accordance with policy. Observe and report patient/resident mood, behavior, and engagement, communicating changes or concerns promptly to the Activities Director and interdisciplinary team. Collaborate with families, volunteers, and other departments to support activity programming, resident councils, special events, and continuity of care.
What We're Looking For:
REQUIRED
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Approved CPR certification (provided during new hire orientation if not already certified).
PREFERRED
6 months of experience in patient/resident activities within a long term care setting. Background in music, arts, exercise, sports, or group leadership.
