Mill City, a 93-unit assisted living and memory care community in Faribault, MN, is now hiring a full time Memory Care Activity Assistant; Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
Primary Purpose:
The Memory Care Activity Assistant plans, coordinates, and facilitates engaging, person-centered activities for residents living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other memory-related conditions. This position promotes residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual well-being through meaningful activities while maintaining a safe, supportive, and dignified environment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Activity Professional or Dementia Care training preferred.
Experience:
Experience working with older adults or individuals with dementia. Previous experience in activities, recreation, healthcare, assisted living, or long-term care.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal English language skills Ability to operate computer and software Understanding dementia and memory care principles. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important. Ability to lead engaging group activities. Compassion, patience, and empathy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Activity Programming Assist in developing and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly activity programs. Lead small and large group activities designed for individuals with memory impairment. Facilitate one-on-one visits and individualized engagement opportunities. Adapt activities to meet varying cognitive and physical abilities. Encourage resident participation while respecting personal preferences and limitations. Resident Engagement Build positive relationships with residents and families. Utilize reminiscence, music, sensory stimulation, and creative activities to promote engagement. Monitor resident responses to activities and adjust approaches as needed. Recognize changes in mood, behavior, and functioning and report concerns to appropriate staff. Documentation Maintain accurate participation records and activity notes. Assist with care plan updates related to activity participation and interests. Team Collaboration Work closely with nursing staff, community life staff, and interdisciplinary team members. Support person-centered care initiatives. Participate in department meetings and training sessions. Communicate with resident needs and preferences effectively. Safety and Compliance Ensure activities are conducted in a safe and supportive environment. Follow infection control, emergency procedures, and facility policies. Maintain residents' rights, dignity, and confidentiality. Assist with room setup, cleanup, and activity supply management. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift activity supplies. Ability to push wheelchairs and transport supplies. Frequent interaction with residents throughout the workday.
Pay:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour
