Primary Objective of Internship:
Gain valuable hands-on experience in planning, supervising, implementing, and evaluating a variety of youth recreation programs, including after-school classes, Rec Basketball Leagues, Ski & Snowboard Club, and large community events. Orientation, training, and mentoring are provided. Work with a variety of grades and age groups (E-12).
Develop leadership and management skills.
Develop public relations and customer service skills.
Gain experience working in a collaborative environment.
Apply coursework and theory in a large, fast-paced, and comprehensive recreation department.
Internship Responsibilities:
Participate in program management, including program development, scheduling, budgeting, marketing, registration, facilities management, and staffing.
Assist in supervising and providing guidance for participants in seasonal youth programs and special events.
Participate in planning, preparation, and leading age-appropriate activities and staff trainings.
Establish positive and friendly relationships with participants and families.
Assist in the supervision and training of program staff.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Participate in a mock interview at the conclusion of the internship.
Requirements:
Pursuing a B.A. or B.S. in recreation, youth development, sports management, leisure studies, community education, or a related field at an accredited college or university (juniors and seniors preferred).
Successful experience in youth recreation and a passion for working with youth.
Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to relate well to both children and adults and thrive in a team setting.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
Evidence of ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
Proven record of punctuality and responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Must have a reliable form of transportation.
