Position Summary:
Responsible for the provision of structured, well-rounded recreation and avocation program, in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.
Essential Functions:
Supervise the instruction of inmates in recreation activities Monitor counseling and motivation of inmates regarding behavior, training, personal or work habits and problems. Oversee the coordination with counselors and others as necessary Prepare a variety of well-planned recreation activities including arts and crats, individual and team sports, special interest programs and others Monitor the development and distribute weekly, monthly and annual recreation plans and schedules of activities Manage and control use of equipment and supplies; make minor repairs and recommend purchases. Provide information regarding special and scheduled activities Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques. Maintain accountability of staff, offenders and property; adhere to safety practices It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required and 2 years related experience required Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
