July 2026 Catawba College Campus Recreation Overview Campus Recreation at Catawba College supports the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff through inclusive, evidence-based programs and services. Position Overview This position will serve in an administrative role with the Intramural Sport Programs area within Campus Recreation. Applicants must be accepted into a graduate program at Catawba College in order to be selected. Students who apply for the position should have significant prior experience with sports officiating and/or sports programming in an accredited collegiate intramural sports program. This position is 11 months/25 hours per week, renewable on a yearly basis and is dependent on the maintenance of satisfactory academic standing, as well as acceptable performance reviews from the Coordinator of Health, Wellness, and Recreation. Duties and Responsibilities Program Administration Assist in the development and scheduling of seasonal intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and special events Maintain and update team registration, schedules, and results using the intramural management software (e.g. IMLeauges) Develop and maintain sport specific rules and regulations in accordance with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) as well as Catawba College Assist in marketing and outreach strategies to increase program visibility and participation. Staff Supervision &Training i. Lead recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of intramural officials and intramural program assistant Lead weekly staff meetings with Intramural Program Assistant Help facilitate monthly staff development meetings for Campus Recreation Staff Provide on-site supervision of intramural events to ensure quality service and enforcement of rules Serve as a mentor and role model for student employees Risk Management & Safety Ensure that all intramural activities follow established safety protocols and risk management procedures Respond to all injuries, conflicts, or emergencies in a calm and professional manner, completing all the necessary incident reports Assist with the inspection of facilities and equipment for safety and compliance Participant Relations & Customer Service Serve as a point of contact for participant concerns, rule interpretations, and conflict resolution Promote an inclusive environment that encourages participation from diverse campus populations Monitor the participant conduct and ensure adherence to sportsmanship eligibility guidelines Assessment & Reporting Track and analyze participation trends, report incidents, and staff performance Provide feedback and recommendations for program involvement based on data and observations Assist in compiling semester and end of year reports summarizing program activities and impact Professional Development Attend departmental meetings, retreats, and training sessions as required Participate in regional or national campus recreation conference and/or workshops when available Participate in monthly NIRSA virtual events as related to Intramural Sports, E-Sports, Fitness & Wellness trends as available each month with NIRSA Membership benefits Stay informed of best practices and emerging trends in intramural and recreational sports Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of various sport rules and policies related to collegiate intramural sports. Ability to interact successfully with college students from diverse identities and backgrounds. Ability to use various computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal. Required Qualifications Acceptance to the Master of Sport Management program at Catawba College Hold safety training/certification (American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, & AED) or acquire such certification within 30 days of hire. Work on average 25 hours per week with a few weekends required. Scheduling will be determined by the supervisor to meet needs of the program. Ability to work independently and as a part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues. Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles. Position subject to criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications Experience with planning and implementation of student staff training(s). Experience with planning and implementation of intramural and club sport programming. Experience officiating at a state, regional, and/or national level. Experience with various sports such as flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and more. Founded in 1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba was started by German pioneers who had traveled from eastern Pennsylvania to settle in the valleys of the Haw, Yadkin, and Catawba Rivers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution and the first woman graduate completed her studies in 1893.
