Full Job Description TITLE:
Summer Camp Counselor

$16 per hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Plans, implements and evaluates programs and activities provided in program areas that supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship.
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities) Prepare Youth for Success 1. Ensure programs, services and activities prepare youth for success, always promotes safety of members and quality in programs, Provide guidance and role modeling to members. 2. Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan by: a. Planning, organizing and implementing a range of program services and activities for members and youth visitors; b. Initiating new programs with the approval of the Center Director or Supervisor; c. Recommending the development of service area programs; and d. Promoting and stimulating program participation. 3. Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly center staff meetings. Program Development and Implementation 4. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members and visitors. 5. Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the center at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports. Health and Safety 6. Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area. 7. Ensure a productive and safe work environment, ensure all program equipment and supplies are in good order. Recommend requisitions, as necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
May be required to participate in special programs and/or events in evenings and/or weekends
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Center staff (professional and volunteer), Club members and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External:
Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE & DOCUMENTS
Associate degree preferred and 1-year minimum experience in related field or 3 year's minimum experience in planning and implementing youth programs with High School Diploma or GED Knowledge of youth development programs preferred Successful experience working in a team setting Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community Ability to use Microsoft office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, member tracking software Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth Ability to track and report program outcomes Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment Complete mandatory State/Federal Licensing training requirements within 2 weeks; complete BGCGC orientation training and ongoing training requirements according to on boarding schedule Valid State Driver's License preferred/reliable transportation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical activities while engaged with youth in outdoor games. Additionally, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to lift, transport items that may weigh 25 lbs. or less.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is performed at our Center site location and requires attendance at evening and weekend events. Occasional domestic overnight trips to attend conferences and/or related professional events may be required. Occasional off-site trips for program activities.
