Education programs and services encourage students to develop and practice caring attitudes of empathy, kindness and respect for all living things. Paired with a Community Education Specialist, the counselor will assist with all daily responsibilities associated with the SPCA's Summer Camp, which includes but is not limited to lessons, activities, games, animal demonstrations, and presentations by guest speakers. Successful counselors are reliable, outgoing, energetic, self-motivated and interested in educating others about animals. This position qualifies for the

ABLE Summer Learning Program:

individuals in this program serve as AmeriCorps members to prevent Summer Learning loss in students in grades K-12. Members serve a minimum of 300 hours over the summer at community-based organizations in WNY. Please complete the application to be considered for a service opportunity this summer. Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old, with experience teaching and/or working with youth, ages 4-17. College students majoring in Education, Counseling, Biology, or related fields are encouraged to apply. A required commitment for ten weeks starting June 15th and ending on August 21st. Be available Monday through Friday and present each day camp is in session. Multi-lingual a plus!

Expectations and Responsibilities:

Must be able to follow lesson and activity plans and lead group activities. Work with an educator to supervise up 20 campers. The ideal candidate will be motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate with children, domestic animals and wildlife. Must collaborate with SPCA Humane Educators, volunteers, interns, and staff as well as all campers and their families. First Aid and CPR Certification preferred. This individual will participate in creating a thriving culture of philanthropy at the SPCA Serving Erie County by increasing awareness and support of our organization. This is achieved by being knowledgeable and supportive of SPCA programs and events, sharing your passion for service to animals and people within our community, and serving as an inspiration by providing an exemplary level of animal care and guest service.
