Job Description

Position Summary The Branch Support Lead helps provide a welcoming, safe, clean, and well-organized environment for YMCA members, program participants, guests, and staff. During assigned evening or weekend shifts, this position serves as the primary on-site point of contact for routine member needs, building concerns, and unexpected situations. The Branch Support Lead supports Welcome Center operations, assists members and program participants, monitors activity throughout the facility, completes light cleaning and organization, and helps ensure that established YMCA procedures are followed. At the
JCC YMCA
Branch, the position also provides general support related to YMCA aquatics operations. This is not a management position and does not carry broad supervisory or disciplinary authority. The Branch Support Lead responds to immediate needs, helps coordinate the initial response to incidents or emergencies, documents concerns, and contacts the appropriate supervisor, emergency service, or facility representative when further action is needed. Essential ResponsibilitiesMember and Participant Support
  • Greet and assist members, program participants, and guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer routine questions about YMCA memberships, programs, schedules, facility use, and available resources.
  • Help individuals navigate the facility and connect them with the appropriate YMCA staff member when additional assistance is needed.
  • Listen to member questions or concerns and address those that fall within established procedures.
  • Document and refer concerns that require follow-up or a management decision.
  • Help create an environment in which members and participants feel welcomed, respected, and supported. Welcome Center Support
  • Provide coverage or assistance at the Welcome Center as assigned.
  • Support member check-in, basic program information, telephone inquiries, and other routine front-desk functions.
  • Follow established procedures related to building access, guest use, member conduct, and closing responsibilities.
  • Communicate relevant information to other staff and the next scheduled shift. Building and Program Support
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the facility and periodically walk through assigned areas.
  • Observe facility activities and help ensure that spaces are being used safely and appropriately.
  • Provide general assistance to programs and instructors without assuming responsibility for program leadership.
  • Respond to routine building concerns and communicate maintenance or safety needs to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and facility security procedures as assigned.
  • Help address minor member conduct concerns by communicating YMCA expectations and seeking supervisory assistance when necessary. Facility Appearance and Organization
  • Help maintain clean, orderly, and welcoming public spaces.
  • Wipe down fitness equipment, counters, tables, and other frequently used surfaces as assigned.
  • Complete light dusting and spot cleaning.
  • Remove clutter and return equipment, supplies, furniture, and materials to their proper locations.
  • Organize shared spaces and replenish basic supplies.
  • Identify cleaning, maintenance, or repair needs that require additional attention.
  • Supplement, but not replace, regular custodial or maintenance services. Incident and Emergency Response
  • Serve as the initial point of contact when an incident, injury, safety concern, or unexpected situation occurs during the assigned shift.
  • Assess the immediate situation and take appropriate initial action based on YMCA procedures and training.
  • Contact emergency services when circumstances require immediate professional assistance.
  • Notify the appropriate YMCA supervisor, JCC representative, or other designated contact.
  • Complete incident reports and other required documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Remain within the authority of the position and refer employment, disciplinary, facility, or operational decisions to the appropriate supervisor.
Aquatics Support —

Branch
  • Help members understand YMCA pool schedules, access procedures, and facility expectations.
  • Support communication between YMCA members, YMCA aquatics staff, and JCC facility personnel.
  • Observe general conditions around the pool and locker room areas and report concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with non-lifeguarding aquatics needs and administrative support as assigned.
  • Do not assume lifeguarding responsibilities unless separately trained, certified, scheduled, and authorized to do so. Communication and Shift Coordination
  • Serve as the primary YMCA contact present during assigned evening or weekend periods.
  • Communicate operational concerns, member feedback, incidents, and follow-up needs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Use good judgment in distinguishing between matters that can be addressed through established procedures and those requiring management involvement.
  • Work cooperatively with YMCA staff, program instructors, lifeguards, JCC personnel, and other facility partners.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support safe and effective branch operations. Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in customer service, recreation, fitness, hospitality, facility operations, or a similar setting is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures.
  • Friendly, calm, and dependable, with the ability to communicate effectively with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during stressful, unexpected, or emergency situations.
  • Ability to recognize when a situation requires assistance from a supervisor, emergency service, or facility representative.
  • Basic computer and telephone skills.
  • Availability to work late afternoon, evening, and/or weekend shifts. Required Training and Certifications
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within the timeframe established by the YMCA.
  • Completion of required YMCA safety, emergency response, child protection, member service, and facility training.
  • Additional JCC facility or aquatics orientation for employees assigned to the
JCC YMCA
Branch. YMCA Cause-Driven Leadership This position is classified at the Leader level. The employee is expected to demonstrate the YMCA Leadership Competencies associated with that level. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to:
  • Move throughout the facility and remain active for much of the assigned shift.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform light cleaning and organizational duties.
  • Move or arrange lightweight equipment, supplies, and furniture.
  • Observe activity in multiple facility areas.
  • Communicate clearly in person, by telephone, and during emergency situations.
  • Respond promptly to incidents occurring throughout the facility.
Work Environment This position works in an active recreation and wellness environment that may include fitness areas, gymnasiums, locker rooms, program spaces, pool areas, and public gathering spaces. The employee may encounter noise, wet surfaces, cleaning products, changing activity levels, and occasional stressful situations. Pay:
