Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an energetic, positive, and dependable Gym Instructor to lead physical activity and recreational programming for elementary school students in grades K-5. The Gym Instructor will provide fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, coordination, and healthy lifestyles. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and can create an inclusive environment where students of all skill levels feel encouraged to participate. Key Responsibilities Plan and lead age-appropriate physical education, fitness, sports, and recreational activities for students in grades K-5. Modify activities to accommodate different ages, skill levels, abilities, and physical needs. Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive gym environment. Demonstrate proper techniques and safe use of sports equipment. Monitor students closely during activities and address safety concerns appropriately. Establish and reinforce clear rules, expectations, and appropriate behavior. Encourage students to develop confidence, perseverance, leadership, and healthy habits. Set up, organize, and safely store gym equipment and supplies before and after activities. Assist with or lead sports tournaments, field days, fitness challenges, showcases, and other program events. Follow all program policies and procedures related to student supervision, safety, and emergency protocols. Qualifications & Requirements Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, afterschool, camp, recreation, or youth program setting. Experience teaching or leading physical education, sports, fitness, or recreational activities. Strong understanding of age-appropriate physical activities and basic sports fundamentals. Excellent classroom/group management and communication skills. Energetic, patient, enthusiastic, and comfortable leading groups of children. Ability to create engaging activities that encourage participation from students with different skill levels.
Minimum:
High school diploma/GED and relevant experience working with children or in recreational programming.
Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Recreation, Education, or a related field. Coaching, personal training, or youth sports certifications are a plus. Must be able to successfully complete any required background checks and program clearances. Available to work Monday through Friday from 2PM to 5:30PM. Preferred Skills Experience working with students in grades K-5. Experience adapting activities for students with different abilities and skill levels. Strong leadership and group-management skills. Ability to motivate and encourage students in a positive manner.
Pay:
$21.00 - $23.00 per hour Expected hours: 17.5 per week
