Job Description
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? We're looking for enthusiastic and caring individuals to join us as camp counselors at Camp HACCAMO! In this role, you'll play a key part in creating a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities to learn, grow, and have an amazing summer. Camp HACCAMO is an overnight camp located in Rush, New York. We run from July 27 to August 7, Monday through Friday, with weekends off. Our campers are divided into two weeks: ages 7 to 18 in the first week and ages 19 to 30 in the second. Our campers come from diverse backgrounds and may have disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and ODD. As a counselor you'll join a dedicated team, participating in exciting activities like pool time, zip lining, and visits to our nature center with pigs and chickens! We believe in making every activity accessible so that every camper can join in on the fun. Our motto is "there are no barriers to fun," and we're committed to making that a reality for all our campers.
What We Offer:
Pay:
- $425
- $550 per week (based on the position), plus room and board, and an additional $100-125 for three days of training.
Hours:
- Expect to work 14 hours a day with two 1-hour breaks, plus the chance to bond with campers by sleeping in cabins 1-2 nights a week.
Job Status:
- We have both full-time and part-time positions available (part-time requires at least 20 hours).
What You'll Do:
- Supervise and engage with campers during activities.
- Ensure campers feel safe and supported at all times.
- Be a positive role model through your interactions.
- Help coordinate meals and collaborate with fellow staff on daily activities.
- Assist campers in adapting to different activities.
- Provide sensitive and respectful assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), including toileting and personal hygiene, while promoting camper independence and dignity.
- Participate in all camp duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
