Job Description

As the Fitness Supervisor at the Findlay Recreation Center, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming, motivating, and results-driven fitness environment for members of all ages and abilities. In this leadership position, you will oversee daily fitness operations, staff development, programming, and member engagement while ensuring exceptional service, safety, and facility standards. You will lead and support fitness team members through hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance management, while developing innovative wellness programs and initiatives that encourage healthy lifestyles and community participation. As a member of the leadership team, you will contribute to facility operations, support member retention and satisfaction efforts, and help create an inclusive environment where individuals feel empowered to achieve their health and wellness goals.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in health and fitness, exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, physical education, sports management, recreation, or related field. (Required) 1
  • 2 years of experience in fitness center operations, group exercise, personal training, wellness programming, or related health/fitness setting. (Required) Up to 1 year of experience in a lead, coordinator, supervisor, or shift leadership role. (Required) 3
  • 4 years of experience in a medically integrated, community center, recreation, university recreation, or full-service fitness center environment.
(Preferred) Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, customer service, computer, scheduling, and reporting skills. Working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and fitness management systems. Basic Life Support (BLS) Required May be obtained within 90 days of employment.
Other:
nationally recognized fitness instructor, group exercise, or personal training certification required or obtained within 6 months of employment. (Required)
Job Overview:
This position is responsible for supervising day-to-day fitness floor, personal training, group exercise, and wellness programming operations at the community center or client's site. The incumbent leads fitness staff and instructors, maintains a safe and welcoming workout environment, supports member engagement and retention, manages schedules and program plans, assists with budget development, and provides Manager on Duty coverage on a rotational basis.
Job Responsibilities:
Works as part of the community center or site's leadership team, attends and contributes to required meetings, and models professionalism. Provides Manager on Duty coverage and performs all associated leadership, service recovery, safety, and facility oversight responsibilities. Develops the annual fitness program plan, staffing model, and operating budget for assigned areas. Oversees fitness staffing including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, and ongoing staff development. Maintains safe, clean, fully operational fitness spaces through routine inspections, vendor coordination, and collaboration with maintenance teams. Coordinates high-quality fitness programs, group exercise classes, personal training services, orientations, and wellness experiences that meet member and community needs. Provides direct program coverage, member support, equipment orientation, or class/training support as appropriate.
