Job Description

SPORTS ASSISTANT - PARKS AND RECREATION - PART TIME SPORTS ASSISTANT
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, assists in the overall operation of programming and implementation of the recreation sports program. Primary responsibilities include the youth basketball and volleyball program, adult basketball and volleyball program, and various other events, programs, and tournaments.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction and guidance from the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation and upper management.
ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS
 - Essential and marginal responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Assist with the Youth and Adult Sports Programs. Disseminate rules, policies and other information to coaches and parents. Recruit coaches and umpires. Assist with staff training. Assist with scheduling. Inventory, organize, and distribute equipment and hats. On-Site supervisor during contests. Disseminate rules, policies, and other information to managers, players, and umpires. Assist with facility and game schedules. Nightly Supervision at volleyball and basketball courts. Hire, train, schedule and supervise scorekeepers. Develop program publicity. Distribute brochures. Develop program reports. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have acceptable attendance and work well with people. Any specific requirements stated in the "offer of employment letter". Safety for oneself and others is a primary responsibility of every employee.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Recreation and Sport Management Required Skills and Competencies:
Interact with general public. Enforce policies in a fair, impartial and polite manner. Work with staff in a professional, team-oriented manner. Work cooperatively with others. Organize and maintain accurate records. Develop and present reports, program publicity in an orderly and professional manner. Work independently without direct supervision.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Education or experience in recreation and/or sports highly desirable.
Training:
Familiarity with the rules and regulations of baseball and softball.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Will require outdoor work in varied weather conditions. Work varied hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Exposure to dissatisfied or abusive individuals
Physical Conditions:
Standing for extended periods of time. Lifting heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds Walking. Kneeling or crouching. Hearing and speaking to communicate information. Reading and writing to communicate information. Seeing to monitor activities
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
High School Diploma or GED required. Any sports certification is a plus.
