Job Summary Under the supervision of the Recreation Center Director, the Assistant Recreation Center Director is responsible for organizing and promoting recreation programs and activities; coordinating, assigning, and supervising the work of staff members; and ensuring building, equipment, rest rooms and changing facilities are clean and sanitary. M-F 3 pm to 9 pm; Saturdays 9 am to 2 pm. Duties & Responsibilities Coordinates, assigns, and supervises the work of staff members and, in the absence of the Center Director, is responsible for all facility operations, programs, meetings and communication. Organizes and promotes activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, social recreation, and hobbies relative to the needs and interests of clients. Schedules activities, monitors cost, and recommends changes to maximize participation in recreational programs. Recommends policies and practices to ensure participants understand the parameters of participation. Coaches individuals on the fundamentals of good sportsmanship and techniques of sundry sports, fitness, or arts. Promotes and publicizes all programs, activities, and/or special events at the center. Inspects all recreation center facilities and ensures buildings, rest rooms, change facilities, and vehicles are clean and sanitary. Directs staff in custodial duties and may clean or tidy as necessary to address matters of immediate concern. Closes and secures facility, properly setting the alarm, in the absence of the Recreation Center Director. Communicates personnel issues to Director in a timely manner; writes concise and cogent incident reports regarding any/all problems involving center staff and/or individuals and documents all vandalism or damage to property. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent; and experience in the field of sports, physical fitness, recreation or the arts to include responsibility for planning or supervising program activity; or a combination of equivalent education and experience. Familiarity with common office software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook calendar. Successful completion of basic first aid training and certification in CPR. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and colleagues. Ability to write concise and cogent reports, policies and promotional material. Must successfully complete and pass a BCI check. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, some weekends and holidays. Ability to supervise programs, coach or teach participants, keep records of activity, and assess quality and effectiveness of the activity. Interpersonal skills developed through public interaction.
