Job Description

Job Overview Join our vibrant summer team as a YMCA Summer Camp Counselor in our, Eastside, Westside and Northeast locations! This exciting role offers the opportunity to inspire and engage children through fun, educational, and enriching activities. As a camp counselor, you will create a safe, inclusive environment where kids can explore new interests, develop social skills, and build lasting memories. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help foster a positive community atmosphere while supporting children's growth and development during the summer months. Must be 16 and up. Duties Lead and facilitate engaging activities in areas such as sports, arts and crafts, theater, swimming, field trips and outdoor adventures to promote physical activity and creativity. Ensure the safety of all campers by supervising their activities closely and implementing proper behavior management techniques. Provide guidance and support to children with diverse needs, including those requiring special education or additional assistance. Maintain a positive environment by encouraging teamwork, respect, and kindness among campers. Assist with daily camp routines such as check-in/check-out, meal times, and transitions between activities. Administer basic first aid when necessary and follow all safety protocols to handle emergencies effectively. Collaborate with fellow staff members to plan age-appropriate lessons that foster childhood development and early childhood education principles. Requirements Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, tutoring, babysitting, or camp environments is preferred. Knowledge of classroom management strategies and behavior management techniques. Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable; willingness to obtain certification if not already certified. Strong communication skills with the ability to connect with children of various ages and backgrounds. Passion for working with children and supporting their social, emotional, and physical development. Experience in sports coaching, theater arts, or childcare is a plus. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain high energy levels throughout the day.
