Job Description

CITY OF STAUNTON
Recreation Program Counselor, Camp Staunton -Seasonal 2026 Staunton Parks & Recreation is accepting applications for Camp Staunton summer staff. Employees may work on a seasonal, full-time, part-time or substitute basis for Camp Staunton and other Parks and Recreation special events from May 26 to July 24, 2026. Individuals will supervise children, assist with planning and overseeing activities at summer camp sites, and document incidents. Previous experience working with children in the supervision of activities highly desired. Ability to apply program policies and procedures required. Individuals must be able to pass applicable background checks and are expected to participate in physical activities with children, make decisions for the safety and wellbeing of participants, and have excellent communication skills. Experience and knowledge of Staunton Parks & Rec programming and events is a plus.
Hourly pay:
$15.22. This part-time position is open until filled.
Job Duties/Expectations:
Take initiative and assume equal responsibility for the full range of camp tasks. Ensure camper safety through supervising, enforcing rules, and knowing emergency protocols. At various times assume a leadership role and/or supportive role. Complete any assigned tasks in a prudent manner. Keep camp sites clean and neat throughout the day as much as possible. Communicate effectively with campers, colleagues, and parents. Professional conduct in line with Staunton Parks and Recreation policies and Staunton City policies.
Preferred Skills:
Energy, patience, leadership, responsibility, and creativity. Ability to work outdoors and handle physical demands (participating in games, setting up equipment, standing outdoors, etc.). Strong communication and conflict resolution skills. CPR/First Aid Certification; While certification is preferred, we offer in house training.
