Community Recreation Specialist Salary $41,745.60 Annually Location Winchester, VA Job Type Full-time Classified Department Parks and Recreation Department Division Parks and Recreation Administration Division Opening Date 04/17/2026 Closing Date 5/17/2026 5:00 PM Eastern FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Description Duties and Responsiblities Displays excellent customer service skills, establishes, and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, public officials instructors, and all members of the public Interprets departmental rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures Uses computer applications to input and retrieve data and generate queries Compiles data and prepares special and periodic reports Assists with other various departmental and City-sponsored programs and events Develops and implements Community Recreation type classes and programs Manages and maintains classes while in session Reviews and proofreads the program booklet for distributions Assists in the preparation and proofreading of the monthly newsletter Reserves and coordinators facilities for programs and classes and helps with all program planning Prepares and submits invoices and reports for instructor payments Assists in recruitment and engagement of vendors and instructors Manages the scheduling of vendors and instructors to ensure proper coverage of all classes and programs Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays Requirements Education and/or

Experience:

A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree in parks and recreation, health and physical education, or a related field is required and some related community recreation programming experience is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Possession of valid and appropriate driver's license. Applicants must have a CPR/AED/First Aid certification or obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.
