Job Description

Performs administrative and supervisory work, directing all phases of assigned recreation programs, and special events. Provides a total recreation program that will serve and meet the needs of the community through both active and passive activities. Plans, organizes, schedules, and supervises a variety of programs, activities, and special events. Markets and schedules the programs or events. Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises staff. Develops, administers, and monitors the budget. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description . Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations. Plans, organizes, schedules, markets, and supervises a variety of programs, activities, and specials events. Provides customer service to the public about recreation programs and special events of assigned area. Responds to and resolves citizen suggestions and complaints. Develops, administers, monitors, and coordinates the budget for assigned programs and capital budgets. Compiles and submits detailed participation, expenditure, and revenue reports for assigned programs. Coordinate's facility and equipment use for programs and assists with setup and tear down for all activities. Works closely with other Recreation Program Supervisors to assist with events and coordinate activities. Produces flyers for programs and specials events by using all available resources including graphic software programs, digital camera, etc. Purchases supplies, materials, and equipment for all assigned programs and special events. Assists the Recreation Superintendent with long range planning and goals for assigned events/programs. Assists with development of department policies and procedures. Solicits and procures alternative revenues from local businesses for various programs and special events when resources are needed beyond department assets. Develops community service announcements for programs, meetings, and special events. Performs related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation Administration, Leisure Services, or a related field Up to one (1) year of experience Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Class C driver's license
Defensive Driving Blood Borne Pathogens Knowledge of:
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment Principles and practices of planning, developing, and managing programs and special events Principles and practices of employee supervision Principles of public speaking Principles of budget preparation and administration Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Communication, both oral and written Customer service Leadership Ability to: Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Plan, organize, and implement recreation programs Evaluate recreation programs and make necessary changes for improvements Ensure safe operating condition of assigned area equipment or facilities
