Lead Cafe Manager We're looking for a detail-driven, hospitality-minded leader to help run the day-to-day of our coffee shop. You'll own the operational backbone, from inventory and scheduling to quality control and staff accountability, while being the face our guests and partners trust. The ideal candidate has an exceptional foundation in Third-Wave coffee and brings a hands-on approach to day-to-day operations and team leadership. Responsibilities Operations & organization Inventory management: Conduct full inventory updates, monitor stock levels, and send low-stock alerts in a timely manner. Spoilage & waste control: Track ordering and waste, enforcing FIFO and date-control practices to minimize loss.
Quality control:
Conduct daily espresso tastings each morning and reassess the dial whenever product or equipment changes occur. Maintain standards across all beverage offerings including seasonal specials.
Scheduling:
Build and manage staff schedules to ensure consistent coverage and operational efficiency.
Cash handling:
Count and manage the cash drawer accurately at the start and end of each shift.
Regulatory compliance:
Ensure ongoing adherence to sanitation and food safety regulations. Vendor & partner relations Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for Kaiser personnel, including: EVS/Sanitation, Engineering, Front Desk/Security, and the Mail Room. Coordinate vendor deliveries and manage incoming mail and supply shipments. Collaborate with Front Desk and Security on in-house postering and advertising. Guest experience & team culture Customer relations: Act as the on-site manager for escalated guest concerns and complaints, resolving issues with professionalism and care.
Service standards:
Set the tone for exceptional guest experiences, modeling the behavior and standards expected from all team members.
Staff accountability:
Hold team members to performance and conduct expectations, offering coaching and feedback in real time.
Training:
Onboard and train new staff as needed, ensuring they are equipped to uphold shop standards.
Marketing:
Support local postering and promotional advertising efforts. Equipment & facilities Complete all monthly manager preventive maintenance tasks, including scheduled cleanings of espresso equipment and other machinery. Monitor equipment for signs of wear, grime buildup, or performance issues, and escalate repair needs as appropriate. What we're looking For Cafe experience: Background in a cafe environment (Starbucks WPS, independent third-wave, or equivalent) with proven mastery of all levels of commercial coffee beverage production (Emphasis on espresso dialing, milk steaming and a proven track record of hands-on teaching).
Food safety knowledge:
Familiarity with food safety standards; must hold or be willing to obtain a current Food Handler Card. ServSafe Manager Certification preferred given the scope of this role, but not required.
Leadership presence:
Confident, clear communicator who can set the tone for a team, build rapport with guests, and hold staff accountable with professionalism. Reliability & ownership: Consistently punctual and dependable. Takes initiative, follows through on tasks, and approaches each shift with a strong sense of personal accountability.
Multitasker:
Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality or hospitality.
Tech-comfortable/Mechanical Inclination:
Familiar with POS systems, Google Suite, and basic troubleshooting of registers and other equipment. Able to maintain multiple pieces of critical equipment with precise attention to detail.
High standards:
Brings a meticulous eye to cleanliness, organization, and overall cafe presentation.
Physical readiness:
Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs throughout a shift. Compensation & Requirements Starting pay: $25.00/hour + tips Offer contingent on successful criminal background check and employment verification Compliance with Hydra Health, Kaiser Permanente Berkeley, and other applicable health/vaccine policies is required.

From $25.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 29.0 per week
