Job Description

Overview Mesa is a transitional housing and wellness program located on a 10-acre farm on the East End of Ojai, serving 12 young adults on site, ages 18-24, who are at risk of or have been experiencing homelessness.
Job Description:
Mesa is looking for a dynamic Relief House Manager who will help to support a strong, vibrant, and healthy community among our participants. This position is an advocate, mentor and culture builder, creating a welcoming space where participants feel included, listened to, comfortable and safe. The Relief House Manager will support the needs of the property and the residents. The position will work in close coordination with the House Manager and Programs team, covering shifts of time when the House Manager and other staff are not on-site. These shifts of time may include day shifts, night shifts or a combination thereof, with on-site sleeping accommodations provided during night shifts. Ability to work some weekends will be necessary. The Relief House Manager must be proactive, creative and enjoy working within a team that is mission-driven and community oriented. The participants at Mesa are at the center of all we do. We exist to provide opportunity and support, to encourage and to help hold accountable and the Relief House Manager plays a key role in fulfilling these goals of the organization.
Major Responsibilities:
Listen with care and compassion, encourage exploration and belief in oneself, and inspire hope and perseverance. Consistently model social skills, life skills and wellness practices and support residents in acquiring and practicing these skills. This includes maintaining clean spaces, cooking meals, discussing goals and projects. Maintain consistent communication with each resident, remaining apprised of any issues needing attention and support. Liaise with Case Manager and House Management team to support and follow up with individualized goals and plans. Work alongside the Programs team to build and maintain a safe and supportive culture with healthy relationships among participants, which may require mediation and conflict resolution. Maintain established house rules, routines and structure of the house. Provide supportive intervention when necessary (e.g. conflict mediation between residents). Support relationship and community building opportunities among residents (e.g. organizing outings, group meals, movie nights). Maintain an understanding of the principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and a commitment to utilize these in all interactions with the residents. Assist with the purchase of house supplies, food and equipment. Assist with the development of policies and procedures. Liaise with Mesa staff to ensure residents' needs outside of the Relief House Manager's responsibilities are addressed. Document applicable interactions with residents in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Respond to emergencies appropriately, contacting authorities or back-up support when necessary. Attend organizational meetings as directed by supervisor. Other related duties may be required from time to time, as needed by institutional priorities.
Qualifications:
Experience working with young adults, especially those those who have been in the foster system, juvenile justice system, and those who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity Trained in approaches such as Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing, trained in cultural competency and in working with a neurodiverse population Substance Use Disorder counseling training Sound judgment, with a demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment Action oriented with a strong ability to prioritize Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills to work successfully with a variety of individuals and cultures Creative and independent self-starter, while being a strong team player Demonstrated work ethic and professionalism Conflict mediation skills Demonstrated leadership and team building skills Strong writing and communication skills Intermediate computer skills for effectively utilizing online documentation database First aid and CPR training (Trainings provided if needed) Available to work a flexible block schedule
